Searching for the perfect breakfast, brunch, or lunch spot in North East Pennsylvania? Your favorite blogger has got you covered!

Come on a totally fantastic trip to Sugar & Loaf Bakery with me located at 26 Pecora Rd, in Drums Pennsylvania.
Even if you’re not in the area, this amazing artisanal bakery & cafe is worth every minute of a road trip. My mom and I have a girls day almost every single Saturday and without question, we know we’re starting our day at Sugar & Loaf cafe! It is the best way to start any weekend morning! It’s a great place to pop in and grab a goodie, with a side of an espresso. It’s also a really great place to meet a friend that you haven’t seen in a while for a luxurious lunch. All of their food and drinks are made with locally picked produce, and farm fresh ingredients. They scratch make everything down to the jams and jellies they offer to spread on their succulent homemade breads, bagels, and muffins. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water! I’m a sucker for a sweet and savory breakfast, so no matter what I order, I’ll always ask for a side of their weekly fruit spread to try with my meal.

The Sugar & Loaf menu:
Chef Phillip Pecora is the owner, head chef, and executive baker. As the weeks and seasons change, he changes their menu seasonally, so that you’re always getting offered in season product. You will be getting offered flavors and combinations you’ve probably never tried or heard of before, especially if you are not used to eating foods with different types of produce involved. However, I have no doubt in my mind that you’re going to fall madly in love with every single thing you sample. Aside from the regular menu changing every couple months, or adding popular items in every few weeks, they have brand new weekly themed specials every week. You will never get bored visiting each weekend since there are constantly new items to choose from. Believe me Diamonds, I can definitely attest to that!
Speaking of endless options and incredible choices!

Aside from their menu, they have a bread and baked goods case next to the counter that is in direct eye contact with you as soon as you open the cafe doors! The placement of it makes you want to walk immediately up to it, and pick whatever it is you’re craving that day. Cookies, mini pies, handheld croissants, turnovers, donuts, and delicious danishes are there for the taking. The cheese danish is my go to! I love anything made with cream cheese! You can either grab a table and relax while you enjoy your sweet treat or you can get a box filled with a dozen or more to go! Another reason I love this place is because it’s so versatile from the food and the drinks, to the way your order can be made! The overall options you have when dining here are superb. Sugar and loaf is truly unbeatable! You’ll walk in thinking you’re just grabbing a bite to eat with your loved one, but you end up leaving with a loaf of sourdough bread, a bag of bagels for the work week, cookies for your cookie jar, and an iced lavender matcha for the road because you know you’re probably not headed right home! Especially on a Saturday afternoon with your mom who you shop until you drop with.
The Interior:

The vibe of Sugar & Loaf Bakery and Cafe is extremely homey because that’s exactly what it is. Well.. what is used to be! Chef Phillip actually grew up in this establishment when it was his families house years ago. He renovated it into a bakery and sit down cafe in Sugarloaf Pennsylvania. Hence “Sugar AND Loaf”. It’s a play on baked goods obviously, but also the location which I love so very much! As I’ve already stated, everything about this place is perfect. Down to the location. If you’re not familiar with the area, the cafe couldn’t be easier to find! Nowadays with everyone using the GPS on their iPhones makes finding addresses a breeze!. As soon as you ride the hill upward when you take that lefthand turn onto Pecora road off Route 93, the establishment will be on your lefthand side! There is not an actual “parking lot”. It’s very casual and reminds you of parking at The Bloomsburg Fair. Have no fear! You’re able to pull right onto the grass; anywhere you can find an opened space!
Sugar & Loaf caters to EVERYONE, even the little ones!

Next to their cozy little couch they have that overlooks the entire main dining room, there is a nifty play area set up with toys for the tots who come with their mamas and papas! There’s a coffee table right next to the couch where books or gadgets can to placed on to keep any child busy while you eat at the table right next to them! There are some restaurants you might feel that your kiddo won’t behave at, or you just don’t feel quite comfortable taking them to that one specific place you like to frequent. Maybe you feel as though they’re not welcomed there since they like to play with cars, or color while they munch on the meal they ordered. However, you do not ever have to feel this way when bringing them to Sugar & Loaf! The little ones are always more than welcomed here, especially since the owner has children himself! The more family members you bring to enjoy his artisanal bakery, the better!
One of their best attributes are their beverages. Truly some of the best European coffees and matcha drinks you’ll have in NEPA!

It is impossible to go to this cafe and only get iced water. It should actually be illegal, especially if you are a coffee addict or a matcha lover such as myself and my mother! Every Saturday when we show up, I look for the next new sip I can test out; contemplating how I can come up with a different concoction from what I had the week before. My mom however, knows exactly what she is ordering! She gets an iced vanilla lavender oat milk green tea latte. She’s what you call a creature of habit! Pictured is my mocha hazelnut cappuccino. Their cappuccinos are crazy good! They make them exactly how they’re suppose to be created when you order them over in Italy. They hit the spot every single time. It’s best served on a rainy day, reading a good book while you sit yapping, waiting for your plates to arrive!
Sugar & Loaf is also one of the best places to journal, plan your month out, or catch up on the book you’re reading!

Books are my life. Well, part of it! Aside from this blog, and my other 20 hobbies, I love reading and writing. If that wasn’t already obvious about the writing part. This cafe truly is the coziest place to get some work done. You can turn through pages in magazines, dive into reading the newest novels, or even coloring in adult coloring books to really zen yourself out to feel all of the vibes this place has to offer.

Their hot honey lavender matcha is magical! I love the touch of garnish as well. They really love what they do here and it shows in every single one of their menu items!

Their hot mocha is magnificent to cozy up with on a chilly weekend morning! The mug is the cutest little thing, especially for spring. I’m obsessed!

Every time we visit, photographing our drink orders are a must do. Truthfully, photographing everything is a must when dining here.

You must order a sweet treat with your caffeinated beverage while you wait on your main entree to arrive!
I’ve tried many of their baked goods and I have loved every. single. one. You will never be disappointed. There have been things I didn’t know if I would be 100% into and I liked it so much I’ve ordered it time and time again! The chocolate chai donut being one of those items for me. I’m not a huge donut lover and I was never into chai tea either, until I had my first iced chai tea latte at Sugar & Loaf bakery. It’s the only chai I ever sipped on that I genuinely fell in love with. Everything about it is just wonderful.
Now, let’s get into the really important stuff! The FOOD!

We will begin with one of my favorites! My go-to!
“2 EGGS &SAUSAGE”
- This breakfast plate is one that will never disappoint. Also, for my non-sausage lovers, don’t go ruling this one out just yet! You can order this meal and sub the sausage for bacon, scrapple, or ham. Your eggs are cooked to your liking using whatever method you choose. When ordering scrambled eggs you can throw some cheese into the mix. You can choose from about six different cheeses which is more than most places! That is an absolute win in my book and one of the hundreds of reasons I visit this place multiple times a month. The farm fresh options they offer are immaculate and I will probably never get over it! You also get a side of their home fries with this order, along with your choice of toast. They have about 10 different breads to choose from every single day that they are opened. My favorite is the peasant bread and I usually get it topped with cream cheese and their fruit preserve of the week. Bagels and English muffins are included in those “toast” options as well.
- Did I forget to mention that their sausage is actually made in house?! Along with their scrapple. It’s extremely rare to find that kind of craftsmanship and talent anymore, especially with how fast people like to run their business in NEPA. Most places make you feel rushed to get the next table seated, but not Sugar & Loaf! You feel like you’re going to visit a longtime friend who’s happy to feed you. Someone wants you to fully unwind and nourish your body while you’re present in their home.

“An Egg & Cheese Sandwich”
- On your sandwich you can choose however you’d like your egg cooked.
- You get to choose whatever cheese is your favorite.
- You are also able to add on meat, such as ham, bacon, sausage, scrapple, or sockeye salmon.
- The left photo is picturing ham, scrambled egg, and gouda cheese on toasted peasant bread.
- The right photo is picturing bacon, scrambled egg, and creamy goats cheese on a beautifully chewy bagel.
Their lunch menu is just as fabulous as their bountiful breakfast menu!

- The left photo is picturing a grilled cheese on honey oat bread with bacon, cheddar, and goat cheese.
- The right photo is picturing a panini that was on special, which I had back in the beginning of fall. It had bacon, apples, lettuce, chicken, cheese, and a delicious spread. The side was an end of summer corn and tomato salad. Both so delicious!
- Any item on the lunch menu cannot be ordered until 10:30am. However, that is a very early lunch, so they’re super accommodating to those who come with their families for a later breakfast who are not fans of breakfast foods!
Quiche is their niche:

- Every season they have a new, wonderful quiche on the menu! It’s always incredibly constructed, concocted, and conjoined using the most unique and freshest ingredients that they can get their hands on. Their quiche, no matter the theme or flavor is always topped with some sort of béchamel, hollandaise, or something of that nature. That is what really sells their quiche as opposed to others. Those are the types of attributes that sends this place soaring above the rest.
Besides their treats, they also provide the sweets:

- Pictured are two types of French toasts from the fall season!
- The left is a cinnamon, maple-bacon French toast.
- The right is a pumpkin apple French toast.
- Both deliciously insane in their own way!
- Both very seasonally appreciated!
TO-GO beverages and baked goods are always an option!

If you’re on the go for the day and need a nice morning pick me up; Sugar & Loaf has completely got you covered! If you’re just driving past on your way home, stop in for a quick sip to take with you on the drive. If you want to bring your family something sweet to say “I was thinking of you!” or “I love you”; this is the place to order from!
- The photo on the left is picturing a hot pumpkin mocha that I brought along with me to the farmers market and pumpkin patch to pick out the prettiest fall finds!
- The photo on the right is picturing me dressed for a festive Saturday morning wondering about at craft fairs and holiday stands; shopping for Christmas presents, and last minute decorations!
Last but most certainly not least!

You might have thought they already go above and beyond with their menu creativity as well as their food quality, however, they go even further than that! Not only does Phillip and his team care about your experience with food and beverages in his own artisan bakery, but they actually care about your experience with food and drinks in your own home. They want to extend their craft and knowledge into your personal kitchen when you are able to get as creative with their product as they do with their menu items!
- The left photo is picturing their fresh apple cider. Truly one of the best ciders I ever had. If you prefer yours hot, you can heat it on the stove with fresh orange and apple slices, as well as some cinnamon sticks!
- The right photo is picturing fresh handpicked apples during the fall season when they are at their peak.
- Of course, both are only available in the fall/winter season, but it’s definitely something to look forward to.
We have arrived at the end of our trip to Sugar & Loaf! Thank you so much for coming along through this journey with me. I hope Phillip and his entire team see you walk through their cafe doors very soon!
Until next time,
xoxo
