Loaded Potato Hot Dogs!

Why yes Diamonds, you read that title correctly. It’s as if a loaded baked potato and a perfectly grilled, juicy hot dog had a baby!

For the past couple years I have ended my summer posts with a hot dog board of some sort. Last year I did cheddar, bacon, and ranch loaded hot dogs, and the year before I did a steakhouse hot dog. Both so different, yet so similar and seriously delicious! This year to say farewell to the summer; I thought we needed a little potato action in our lives. I’ve been super into adding potatoes into different recipes using various cooking styles as well. If you’ve never tried potatoes on a hot dog before, you’re missing out and you’ve come to the right place! I love adding a wide variety of carbs, starches, or grains onto dishes I already love, like hot dogs. I love them plain and also piled, but this version you definitely have to try. It’s unlike anything you’ve EVER had in the most outstanding way.

There’s no doubt about that!

When it comes to loading up our hot dogs or even cheeseburgers for that matter we get caught up with the toppings as if they’re the most important part. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s my favorite part of enjoying hot dogs fresh off the grill. However, you can’t build a wonderful hot dog with fabulous toppings without having a perfect base. The bun and meat make or break the most delectable hot dog build you could ever imagine. I prefer purchasing my hot dogs from my local farm because I just simply cannot find as good of quality hot dogs like that in the supermarkets. Another perk of getting them farm fresh is that they come in four or five As for the buns I love top sliced white or fresh ones right from the bakery. Just make sure that both of those ingredients look like they’re made of the best quality because they really do make all the difference in your hot dog experience.

  • Once your hot dogs are hot and juicy off the grill or however you choose to cook them you can start to load them up with all of those tasty baked potato toppings that you love including the potato itself!

Instructions:

  • Small dice at least two russet potatoes if you’re making the entire pack of hot dogs.
  • Fry the potatoes in a saute pan over medium-high heat with two tablespoons of olive oil and a pad of butter. Season with sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes or until browned and fork tender.
  • Shred 1/4 block of mild cheddar cheese. I like to use a really high end brand so that the cheese has that perfect bite that you want when you think of a cheesy, loaded potato.
  • Fry five pieces of thick cut bacon until crispy and sizzling.
  • Cut a bunch of fresh chives.

How to properly build the perfect loaded potato hot dog:

  • Spoon on a scoop of the fried potatoes on top of your hot dog.
  • Sprinkle on a handful of freshly grated cheddar cheese over the potatoes so that the cheese could start to slightly melt from the heat of all of the ingredients.
  • Of course you don’t want to forget to crumble on that bacon.
  • Last but certainly not least, you can’t have a loaded potato without sour cream, so I whipped up a little sour cream dressing to dress each dog with.

Sour cream dressing instructions:

  • Scoop 1/2 cup of sour cream into a small mixing bowl.
  • Squeeze a few drops of fresh lemon juice into the sour cream for a bit of freshly. This flavor goes great with the creamy tang of sour cream.
  • Third ingredient is Worcestershire sauce. Just a few dashes.
  • Lastly, throw in a handful of chopped chives.
  • Season with sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of paprika.

Garnish with fresh chopped chives

These hot dog boards are great to put out at a party to end one season while you welcome in another. They’re a perfect help yourself food that everyone will love!
